Just beginning your search for how to tighten your skin without committing to a facelift? Ultherapy may be the answer you’re in search of. If this is the first you’re hearing about Ultherapy treatments, we’ve put together a simple fact sheet of everything you need to know about this non-invasive procedure.
What will Ultherapy feel like?
Ultherapy used to have a reputation for being very painful, but with today’s evolving technology, the procedure is now very tolerable.
Ultherapy works by delivering targeted ultrasound energy to a deep layer of the skin, at a temperature which will stimulate collagen production. The treatment is able to apply deep heating into the target layers of the skin without heating the skin’s surface. Treatments kickstarts neocollagenesis, which produces new collagen. In this way, Ultherapy uses your body’s natural processes to accomplish skin tightening and lifting.
There are still people who may find the treatment uncomfortable, but most people are comfortable during the procedure and find it very tolerable. If you’re ready for a mini lift and aren’t ready for surgery or the invasive measures involved with a facelift, ultherapy is an excellent option.
Treatment length varies depending on the treatment area and the individual. If you’re treating your face and neck, this usually takes 60 minutes, while a chest treatment takes about 30 minutes.
What do I need to do to prepare for non-invasive skin tightening?
Once you book your Ultherapy procedure, you won’t need to follow any special preparations or skincare regimens in advance of the treatment.
Will there be downtime after Ultherapy?
There is typically no downtime after Ultherapy. Immediately after treatment, patients are able to get back to their daily lives without taking time off to recover. It’s important to note that there will be waiting involved when it comes to seeing your full results.
What kind of results can I expect, and when will they show up?
Most patients only need one treatment, but some can benefit from additional sessions. This is hard to predict before the first treatment, as each patient responds slightly differently to collagen stimulation. However, the degree of skin laxity is a good indicator of whether more than one treatment will be beneficial.
Patients sometimes see initial differences to their skin, but it takes time for the full effects to present. Final results take hold over the next 2-3 months as the body forms new collagen. The length of results actually depends on how long your body continues the collagen production process, which is hard to predict. Then, the aging process will determine how long that fresh collagen and tightened skin lasts in terms of your appearance.
What are the possible side effects?
You may experience mild side effects including:
- Skin appearing flushed immediately after procedure
- Slight swelling
- Tenderness to the touch
- Temporary bruising
- Temporary numbness to small areas of the skin
How do I know whether Ultherapy is the right treatment for my sagging skin?
If you’re unhappy with the elasticity of your skin, but you’re not sure what to do next, you are not alone. Non Surgical skin tightening can yield gorgeous results, and are an excellent alternative to surgery, especially for those who can’t afford the price tag or downtime involved with a facelift.
A strong candidate has mild to moderate skin laxity and is someone who is frustrated by:
- A sagging eyebrow line, with lowered eyelids and skin around the eyes
- Loose skin on the neck that forms horizontal lines
- Sagging skin underneath the chin that hangs down toward the neck
- Lines or wrinkles on the chest
