How are Cutera's CoolGlide and ProWave lasers different from other hair removal methods?
Shaving, waxing and depilatory creams are all temporary methods which must be repeated on a frequent basis. CoolGlide and ProWave lasers offer permanent hair reduction for lasting results.

Using the latest technology in laser hair removal, Cutera can rapidly treat large areas without the limitations of older technologies. The longer wavelength allows us to treat all skin types and can treat a wide variety of hair types such as the fine hair on a woman's upper lip just as easily and effectively as the coarse hair on a man's back. The cooled hand piece increases patient comfort and minimizes the adverse skin reaction commonly seen with other lasers.


Who can be treated for laser hair removal?
Using two specially designed devices, the CoolGlide and the ProWave, we can effectively treat men and women of all skin types and tones. The CoolGlide CV laser was the first 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser cleared by the FDA to permanently reduce hair in patients of all skin types (I-VI), from the fairest to the darkest and everything in between.

What areas can be treated?
Virtually any area of the body can be treated for hair removal including the face, arms, back, chest, legs and bikini.


How many treatments will I need?
Most areas require 3-6 treatments; however, various factors such as your hair's thickness, the area treated, and your hair's growth cycle factor into the number of treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits.


All hairs are actively growing at the same time, but actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. Both the CoolGlide and the ProWave work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.


What kind of improvement is expected?
Both the CoolGlide and ProWave treatments are designed for effective, permanent hair reduction and patients will notice less hair with each treatment. All skin types can be treated safely and effectively - from the fairest to the darkest and everything in between.

What do the treatments feel like?
Some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation as the pulse of light is delivered. Most patients have described the procedure as tolerable and no anesthetic is necessary.


What happens after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment the area treated may appear red and swollen. 3-7 days after the treatment you may experience what appears to be a regrowth of hair. This is actually the hair shedding as a result of the treatment. You should not pluck or wax between treatments; however, shaving is permissible.


Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?
You can return to your normal activities immediately following the treatment. It is important to use sunscreen on any treated areas.


What are the possible side effects?
Slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to sunburn may occur in some patients. These effects typically last for several hours or less.
